The Tree Crops Development Authority (TCDA) has commissioned its new Regional Office in Sunyani in the Bono Region, as part of efforts to bring the Authority’s operations, services and regulatory support closer to actors and stakeholders within the tree crops value chain.

The commissioning was led by the Chief Executive Officer of TCDA, Dr. Andy Osei Okrah, alongside the Bono Regional Minister, Hon. Joseph A. Akwaboa, and the Chairman of the TCDA Board, Prof. William Oduro.

The new office is expected to serve as a key point of engagement for farmers, processors, aggregators, traders and other actors within the region, while supporting TCDA’s mandate to regulate, develop and promote Ghana’s tree crops sector.

Speaking at the commissioning, Dr. Okrah said the establishment of the Bono Regional Office would strengthen TCDA’s presence in the region and improve service delivery to stakeholders, particularly actors within the cashew value chain.

He explained that the office would accelerate the registration and licensing of cashew value chain actors, strengthen compliance and enforcement of the Authority’s regulations, and enhance traceability, data collection, public education and stakeholder sensitisation across the region.

“Our regional officers will now effectively represent the Authority here in Bono, bringing TCDA’s presence, guidance and support directly to the doorstep of our farmers and processors.”

The Bono Regional Minister, Hon. Joseph A. Akwaboa, welcomed the establishment of the office and said it would bring TCDA’s services closer to farmers and other stakeholders while contributing to improved productivity, quality assurance, value addition, market access and sustainable agricultural practices.

He pledged the support of the Regional Coordinating Council (RCC) and called for stronger collaboration among stakeholders to advance the tree crops sector and improve livelihoods in the region.

The Regional Minister also encouraged farmers to take advantage of the opportunities and services provided by the new office and adopt climate-smart farming practices to strengthen resilience and productivity.

He congratulated TCDA and its Chief Executive Officer on the initiative, expressing confidence that the office would serve as an important hub for farmer support, coordination, value addition and the sustainable development of the tree crops industry in the Bono Region.

Dr. Okrah expressed appreciation to His Excellency John Dramani Mahama for his visionary leadership and continued support for the Tree Crops Development Authority.

He also commended the Ministry of Food and Agriculture, the Bono Regional Minister, development partners and other stakeholders whose contributions, he said, helped make the establishment of the regional office possible.

The commissioning of the Bono Regional Office forms part of TCDA’s broader efforts to decentralise its operations, strengthen engagement with stakeholders and ensure that regulatory and development support reaches actors across Ghana’s tree crops value chain.
