On March 20, 2024, at the Airport View Hotel in Accra Key stakeholders in the mango value chain convened to address a pressing issue: the establishment of a unified pricing system for mangoes.
After extensive deliberation and fruitful discussions, a consensus was reached. The stakeholders unanimously agreed upon a standardized price for mangoes, marking a significant step forward for the industry.
During the proceedings, TCDA's CEO, Hon. Quaittoo, took the opportunity to emphasize the importance of maintaining high-quality standards in mango production. He underscored the necessity for stakeholders to ensure that their mangoes meet the required standards to qualify for the standardized pricing. Furthermore, he advised on the importance of establishing a transparent weighing process to prevent any potential misunderstandings or conflicts.
This landmark initiative was made possible through the support of the German Corporation for International Cooperation (GIZ) and Federation of Association of Ghanaian Exporters (FAGE). Their commitment to fostering sustainable development in the tropical crop sector has been instrumental in driving progress and facilitating constructive dialogue among stakeholders.
Looking ahead, TCDA will take the next step of presenting the agreed-upon pricing structure to the sector minister for official approval. This stresses TCDA's dedication to promoting fair trade practices and driving positive change within the mango industry.
As we embark on this journey towards standardization and progress, TCDA remains steadfast in its commitment to advancing the interests of stakeholders and ensuring the sustainable growth of the tropical crop sector. Together, we can build a brighter future for mango producers and consumers alike.
